  • FESTIVAL OF GARDENING

    First Saturday in May 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM
    The Festival includes sales of Master Gardener grown plants, morning coffee, juice and muffins, garden accessories. Offered to the public at no charge are three horticultural seminars inside the Aviary, demonstrations and childrens' activities. Master Gardeners are available to answer gardening questions.

    This is an HCMGA annual fundraising event. Proceeds support our Youth Horticulture Programs in the schools and neighborhood centers, training new Master Gardeners, and other volunteer programs of the Hill City Master Gardener Association.

  • MASTER GARDENER COMPOST EDUCATION CENTER

    The Compost Education Center is located by the maintenance shop at the Old City Cemetery. We have an exhibit of different compost containers. There are two demonstration gardens - one with amended soil and one without. The Compost Education Committee goes on the road at times, taking their compost containers with them. They appear at various functions around the City demonstrating what to do with yard waste. They also provide education sessions at the Compost Education Center.

    Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - Noon, during the growing season.
    MGs staff the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office in Lynchburg. Master Gardener Volunteers give research-based information as well as laboratory access to solve client's horticulture problems. They answer questions, accept samples of sick plants or insects for identification, and research horticulture questions.

    The Hill City Master Gardener Association maintains a Speakers Bureau with seventeen speakers who can present programs on over 60 different gardening subjects. A list of available topics is attached for your review. For further information on scheduling speakers for your club or organization, please contact Master Gardener Joe Pond at 384-7868 or by email at mgspeakers08@verizon.net. An information packet containing a complete list of speakers and contact information will be mailed to you.
