Staffing by Jun Looneyg consists of a plant sale, a bake sale, garden art,
garden books, and free educational workshops and demonstrations. Offered to the
public at no charge, this is HCMGA's annual fundraising event. Proceeds support
our Youth Horticulture Grant Fund, Master Gardener Training, and the Volunteer
Programs of the Hill City Master Gardener Association.
MASTER GARDENER COMPOST EDUCATION CENTER
Old City Cemetery, 4th and Taylor Streets

The Compost Education Center is located by the maintenance shop at the Old City
Cemetery. We have an exhibit of different compost containers. There are two
demonstration gardens - one with amended soil and one without. The Compost Education
Committee goes on the road at times, taking their compost containers with them.
They appear at various functions around the City demonstrating what to do with
yard waste. They also provide education sessions at the Compost Education Center.

MGs staff the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office in Lynchburg. Master Gardener Volunteers give research-based information as well as laboratory access to solve client's horticulture problems. They answer questions, accept samples of sick plants or insects for identification, and research horticulture questions.

The Hill City Master Gardener Association maintains a Speakers Bureau with seventeen
speakers who can present programs on over 60 different gardening subjects. A list
of available topics is attached for your review. For further information on scheduling

Occasionally we get a request to set up an information table at a community function or to participate in a one-time project that is normally completed in a day or two. Project requests are approved by the HCMGA Board, and the President/Coordinator will normally find someone to chair that special event.
